How to play Word Deduction

Choose a round of Word Deduction and settle into its rules. Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Look at what changes after your first action. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Guess a five-letter answer from the included collection. Entries must contain five letters; accepted guesses are not checked against a complete dictionary.

Try a deliberate move

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Start with a deliberate move.

Step by step

  1. Enter five letters.
  2. Green marks the correct position; gold marks an available copy elsewhere.
  3. Grey means no matching unused copy.
  4. Use the feedback to solve.

Controls

Type a guess and press Check guess or Enter. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

An answer containing one E can award only one positive E mark in a guess containing two. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

Repeated letters do not imply unlimited copies in the answer. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
